I’ve tried Krita, and I can see it is a great app, but I’m not in love. Actually, the latest version of Gimp (2.10) is very good. They’ve put in a lot of work and it shows. Knowing the features they planned, it will only get better.
Kdenlive looks good, too. I suppose Kdenlive is suitable for smaller projects, Lightworks for the larger ones.
Didn’t know about OBS, I’m using Peek right now and it suits my needs. But OBS looks much more feature rich.
As for elementaty OS, to be honest, I’m much happier with Pop!_OS. I like its look and feel and love the fact that it gets out of the way. After a life of macOS, I don’t mind the change. :)
You’re absolutely right about progress made. Especially in the past few years I feel Linux has come to a whole new level where it can compete with macOS and Windows. Partially thanks to macOS getting worse on the usability front with the iCloud mess. Surprisingly, Windows is more acceptable these days, even for developers.
